Northwestern Mutual is almost ready to move furniture into the seven-story office in downtown Milwaukee that it has been renovating throughout 2013. See the slideshow of photos and details about the ongoing renovation work on the building by The Business Journal’s Lee Matz in this week’s Constructing Milwaukee feature.

The office on North Van Buren Street will house many of the workers that must move out of Northwestern’s building one block to the east before it is demolished. Renovating the Van Buren building essentially is the first stage of the company’s expansion of its downtown campus, the centerpiece of which is the 1.14-million-square-foot new office tower that is to cost at least $350 million.

Northwestern Mutual bought the 158,000-square-foot Van Buren Street office building in January and hired Eppstein Uhen Architects of Milwaukee to design an entirely new interior. General contractorM.A. Mortenson Co. has led the project to gut and rebuild the building’s interior.
